Peeking Through the Irises
The inspiration for my Spring Blossoms series is simple. Portraits and flowers are two subjects I enjoy painting, because they are beautiful, but also because they are challenging!
I often find when my painting is finished that I've lost some of the beauty I fell in love with during my initial sketches. The battle of keeping the softness of the face while creating dimensionality.
In every finished piece I make an effort to acknowledge aspects that were successful, because the errors already stand out so easily. I am happy with a lot of the color blending between Burnt Sienna Light and Dioxazine Purple. The values in her hair and my attempt to keep the focus close to her face was also fun to balance.
